112 Upon receipt of the CIA report, the analysts, following standard Special Office procedures, assigned different case numbers to the two sightings. In this case, the refugee’s May 1983 sighting of the American POWs near Ham Tan was assigned Case Number 4424; his later sighting of American prisoners in the Central Highlands, Case Number 2574.Though an important sighting, because of the fragmentary nature of the official record Case 2574 is not discussed in detail in this section. The complete analyst’s working file for Case 2574 can be found in both the Vietnam-era POW/MIA Database at the Library of Congress and in the Inventory of the Records of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, 102d Congress (1991-1992) at the National Archives.

121 The Ham Tan camp system stretched from eastern Long Khanh Province (postwar Dong Nai Province) into western Binh Thuy Province, which the Communists had reconfigured after the war and renamed Thuan Hai Province.Because the Ham Tan camp system was not activated until after the war, the postwar names of the provinces are generally used to describe the two provinces in which the camp system was located, i.e., Dong Nai and Thuan Hai.Some former inmates even referred to the Ham Tan camps just by the names of the two provinces, calling them the "Dong Nai-Thuan Hai camps."
